Another one of the family members, the older daughter Marilyn, was a normal person. Of which the on-going joke of show was that the family thought she was ugly looking and that became the topic of many laughs through the two years that the show ran until it ended in 1966. Marylin was first played by actress Beverley Owen. She played the role for the first 13 episodes, then left the show to marry. She was replaced by Pat Priest who played the role of Marilyn until the show ended. You may have a hard time telling which one is which in pictures of the show. However, a usual give away is that Beverly almost always wore a head band because she wore a wig and it kept it in place.

Some of the memorable things about The Munsters is the creepy looking Gothic mansion they lived in and the "Munster Koach" which they drove around in which looked sort of like a hot rod hearse. The show which was hosted by CBS competed directly with The Adams Family on ABC. Both shows were in black and white. When the Batman series which was shot in color aired in 1966, it spelled the end for both shows as it dominated the ratings.

That would not be the last we saw of The Munster cast however. The same year the show ended would come the release of the movie Munster, Go Home! When Herman (Fred Gwynne), inherited an estate in England, the family moved there and then the antics began.

DeleteI think that Marilinns parents died in some sort of garlic related acsetdent
DeleteTV wishes it was as good as it used to be!
ReplyDeleteMarilyn was the Munster's niece, I'm pretty sure I just saw an episode where they said she was Lily's sister's daughter. Eddie was also not a vampire--he was a werewolf. In the first episode, the babysitter asks him what the howling sound was and he replied"I can't help it. I always howl at the moon" (Something along those lines)
ReplyDeleteI have 40 hour of the munsters on DVD!! So happy!!
ReplyDeleteMe too! Watching now. :)
DeleteMarilyn was Lily and Hermans niece making it Eddie's cousin.
ReplyDeleteLily adopted Marilyn because her mother was raped by a Romanian aristrocat and along came Marilyn. Her father was never prosecuted and her mother went insane and spent 100 years in an insane asylum, she was a vampire too.
ReplyDeleteIll tell u the true story of Marilyn soon.
