Sorrell Booke - Jefferson Davis 'Boss' Hogg in The Dukes of Hazzard

Sorrell Booke who played the villainous Boss Hogg in the TV series The Dukes of Hazzard was born in 1930 in Buffalo New York.  He studied at Columbia University and Yale. Although he mostly performed in TV shows, Booke acted in a few movies over the years as well including Gone Are The Days in 1963, Joy House (1964), Up the Down Staircase with Patrick Bedford, Sandy Dennis, Jean Stapleton, Florence Stanley and Eileen Heckart (1967), What's Up, Doc? with Barbara Striesand, Ryan O'Neal, Kenneth Mars, and Madeline Kahn (1972), Slaughterhouse-Five (1972), The Other Side of Midnight co- starring Marie-France Pisier, John Beck and Susan Sarandon (1977), and Record City in 1978 co-starring Leonard Barr, Ed Begley Jr., Ruth Buzzi, and Ted Lange.  His TV work before The Dukes of Hazzard included Producers' Showcase (1957), Car 54, Where Are You? (1962), Route 66 (1962), Naked City (1961-63), Dr. Kildare (1963-65), M*A*S*H with Alan Alda, Loretta Swit, Harry Morgan, Gary Burghoff, David Ogden Stiers, Jamie Farr, Mike Farrell, William Christopher, Larry Linville, Wayne Rogers, McLean Stevenson, and Kellye Nakahara.

He also appeared in  The New Dick Van Dyke Show, Police Story, The Streets of San Francisco, The Bob Newhart Show, Columbo, All In The Family, Little House on the Prairie, Good Times, Soap, and The Rockford Files with James Garner.  Booke even directed four episodes of The Dukes of Hazzard himself.

Sorrell played the villainous Jefferson Davis "Boss" Hogg very well and he will be forever be remembered as the man in the all white suit.  He was always giving  The Duke Family a hard time either himself or through his sheriff, Roscoe P. Coltrane (James Best) and his deputies Enos (Sonny Shroyer) and Cletus (Rick Hurst) who also happened to be Boss Hogg's cousin.  Acrtress Peggy Rea played his wife Lulu Hogg.

After the Dukes of Hazzard, Booke appeared in a few show such as Newhart, Crazy Like A Fox, You Again?, and Full House.  However, he mostly did voice work for TV shows such as The Pound Puppies, Scooby Doo Meets The Boo Brothers, Yogi and the Invasion of the Space Bears, Tiny Toon Adventures: How I Spent My Vacation, Tom and Jerry Kids Sho, and his last role was in Bonkers.  Sorrell Booke fought a losing battle with cancer and died in February of 1994.
